Sport for free

Directly beside the stadium SonMoix are 6 basketball fields and a small football field. Passing the Cafeteria next to the skate park, the town put up poles for cross fit. Sunday afternoons closed.

The big Sa Riera Park close to the ring motorway has the most beautiful football ground. The artificial lawn is new. 2 Volleyball fields, basketball players have to share one field. Along a running lane fitness equipment is put up. Open until midnight from April on, in winter closes at 22.00.

Behind the library in Carrer de Joan Alcover 28, Palma is a basketball field, run by the cultural center. Open Monday to Friday from 09.30 to 13.30 and 16.30 to 21.00.

In the ParqueSesSorts in the city quarter Es Rafal Vell in Palma is an outdoor fitness studio for beginners. Pretty idyllic laid out park, fairly without people. Only the close-by motorway could disturb a little bit.

The British inhabitant BenMiles (son of the owner of the show stage Son Amar) is represented in the Guinness Book of Records for cycling 12 days on a home trainer. Every hour he stopped for 5 minutes. Proud to have it done but – he said – he will never do it again. It’s too demanding for the body. Ben wanted to draw attention to environment protection.

GASTRONOMY

Only with your hands you find the right maturity level for a melon. Clap with the flat hand on the fruit. When it’s vibrating, it’s perfect. If you clap on the melon you should here an echo. And the yellow spot on which the melon was laying on the field is a sign. The more yellow the spot, the riper is the fruit. Is the spot greyish, the melon is not ready yet and will not be ripe anymore because once picked melons don’t ripe.

Excellent simple and with a lot of love is the slogan of the starchef Adrian Quetglas who opened his restaurant “Dmenu” in Palma again but only for lunch and on working days. The food tastes sensational: for example creamy rice with sweet corn, ox tail and chili sauce as starter, filet of negrito (black dogfish) with alga-potato-parmentier or the pork filet on peanut sauce with peanut crumbs and plum compote. Dessert could be smoked pineapple with coco-ginger-cream. Placa de Sant Antoni 17, Tel.: 971 460455, FB: Dmenu.

Simply excellent is the restaurant “Andana” in Palma of female star chef Maca de Castro. Since the opening, the restaurant developed to a popular place, mainly visited by Mallorcans; an attractive combination of beautifully designed restaurant with terrace and affordable, partly very local dishes. Try scramble bio egg with tumbet vegetables (pepper, egg plant, tomato sauce) and fried potatoes or roasted eggplant halves covered with tahini sauce and a small chopped mix of tomato, coriander, thyme and lemon. Farmer’s salad with different vegetable, dried fish from Formentera and boiled egg. Star butcher Xesc Reina Home does home made sausages from the meat of the black pig, steamed instead of fried, served in a brioche hotdog bread roll with red cabbage-sauerkraut and onion sauce. Very tasty is the chickpea dish with rabbit and snails, served in a paella pan or the cocas with tomato, onion or spinach. Classical dishes like suckling pig, lamb leg or ox filet tartar with wines from Mallorca or the Mainland. Placa d’Espana 6, Tel.: 971 100201, www.andanapalma.es
